River Watch 2008 / Flood warning continues (08/05/06)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - River Watch 2008 and the Department of Public Safety's New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization are continuing the major flood warning for areas South of Mactaquac downstream to the City of Saint John on Tuesday, May 6, 2008.
Persons living or working along all streams, tributaries and rivers in the lower St. John River valley are asked to remain on alert, as we remain above flood stage in many areas.
Fair weather with warm temperatures are forecast for today with a chance of light showers Wednesday afternoon in some areas.
In the upper and middle basin, water flows and levels have continued to decrease and this trend is expected to continue for the next several days.
In the southern basin, water flows and levels are declining from Fredericton to Saint John. Water levels will continue to fluctuate in response to tides.
As of 11 a.m., water levels were as follows:
In Fredericton, the water level was 6.76 metres and is expected to decrease to 6.6 metres by Wednesday morning and remain steady at 6.6 metres on Thursday. Flood stage is 6.5 metres.
In Maugerville, the water level is at 6.23 metres and is expected to decrease slightly to around 6.1 metres on Wednesday and to 6.0 metres on Thursday. Flood stage is 6.0 metres.
In Jemseg, the water level is at 5.73 metres and will decrease slightly to 5.6 metres on Wednesday and to 5.4 metres on Thursday. Flood stage is 4.3 metres.
In Grand Lake, the water level is at 5.85 metres and is expected decrease to 5.7 metres on Wednesday and to 5.5 metres on Thursday. Flood stage is 5.0 metres.
In Sheffield-Lakeville Corner, the water level is at 5.97 metres and is expected to decrease slightly to around 5.9 metres on Wednesday and to 5.7 metres on Thursday. Flood stage is 4.8 metres.
In Oak Point, the water level is at 5.06 metres and is expected to have a high tide level of about 5.1 metres on Wednesday and decrease to 4.9 metres on Thursday. Flood stage is 4.7 metres.
In Quispamsis-Saint John, the water level is at 4.9 metres and is expected to have a high tide level of 5.0 metres on Wednesday and decrease to 4.8 metres on Thursday. Flood stage is 4.2 metres.
As water levels should continue to decrease in all areas, the next report will be issued on Wednesday May 7, 2008.
