A LOW PRESSURE WHICH FORMED SOUTH OF NOVA SCOTIA SUNDAY NIGHT BROUGHT
AN AREA OF PRECIPITATION TO SOUTHEASTERN NEWFOUNDLAND ON MONDAY.
THE PRECIPITATION BEGAN AS RAIN OVER MOST AREAS AND THEN CHANGED TO
SNOW AS TEMPERATURES FELL.
THE FOLLOWING ARE UNOFFICIAL TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OBSERVED AT
SELECTED OBSERVATION SITES:

ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 5:11 AM AST TUESDAY 8 MARCH 2011.
A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE THAT WAS SITUATED NORTH OF THE PROVINCE
SUNDAY MORNING SLOWLY SANK SOUTHWARD DURING THE DAY TO LIE OVER
SOUTHERN AREAS SUNDAY EVENING. A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVED ALONG THE
TROUGH CROSSING NEW BRUNSWICK MONDAY EVENING BEFORE MOVING OUT OVER
THE GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE OVERNIGHT MONDAY. SOUTH OF THE TROUGH AND
LOW MAINLY RAIN FELL WITH SOME AREAS SEEING IN EXCESS OF 50 MMS.
NORTH OF THESE FEATURES THE PRIMARY PRECIPITATION WAS SNOW. HOWEVER
IN THE VICINITY OF THE TROUGH A NARROW BAND OF FREEZING RAIN
OCCURRED WHICH LIKELY RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANT ICING OVER SOME
CENTRAL AREAS, SUCH AS ALONG HIGHWAY 8 FROM MCGIVNEY TO MIRAMICHI.
THE FOLLOWING ARE SNOWFALL AND RAINFALL TOTALS REPORTED ACROSS THE
PROVINCE AS OF 2 AM LOCAL TIME TUESDAY.
