Winter storm warning for
Pictou County continued
Snow and blowing snow on Tuesday. Amounts up to 15 cm.
A low pressure system south of Nova Scotia will intensify as it tracks northeastward to lie east of Cape Breton tonight. This system will remain nearly stationary on Tuesday.
Significant snowfall is expected starting early Tuesday over northern and eastern portions of the province. Total snowfall amounts near 15 cm can be expected by Tuesday evening.
In addition northerly winds gusting to 90 km/h will cause blowing snow and whiteout conditions especially over higher terrain. These very strong winds will also produce higher than normal water levels with pounding surf along north facing coastlines of the Northumberland strait and Gulf of St Lawrence.

Strong northerly wind gusting to 90 km/h are expected on Tuesday along the Northumberland strait.

Near 10 cm snow is expected over extreme southeastern regions where onshore flurries will persist throughout the day Tuesday. The strong northerly winds and onshore flurries will result in extended blowing snow giving reduced visibilities on Tuesday for areas near the Northumberland strait.
In addition higher than normal water levels can be expected during high tide Tuesday morning. Heavy pounding surf will also affect coastlines along the Northumberland strait on Tuesday.
