A low pressure system over the Gulf of Maine is forecast to track

across Nova Scotia tonight and stall as it passes south of Cape

Breton Island during the day Friday. There is the potential for

rainfall amounts to exceed 50 millimetres over the island from this

system on Friday. At this time however the track of the low remains

uncertain.


The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as

warnings may be required or extended.

SOUTHWESTERN WASHINGTON COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST MAINE...

THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF CHERRYFIELD...

* UNTIL 1030 PM EDT THURSDAY

* AT 1027 AM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUES

TO INDICATE AN AREA OF MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN MOVING NORTH INTO

HANCOCK AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES IN DOWNEAST MAINE.

DOPPLER RADAR ESTIMATES AND SPOTTER REPORTS INDICATE THAT 3 TO

4 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN ACROSS THE AREA SINCE EARLY THIS

MORNING.

CURRENT INDICATIONS ARE THAT AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN

IS POSSIBLE THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. THIS

WILL LIKELY RESULT IN SOME URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING.

LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND MAINE DOT OFFICIALS HAVE REPORTED

SOME WATER ACROSS ROUTE 182 NEAR THE HANCOCK AND WASHINGTON

COUNTY BORDER.

A FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR HAS

BEEN REPORTED. STREAM RISES WILL BE SLOW AND FLASH FLOODING IS NOT

EXPECTED. HOWEVER...ALL INTERESTED PARTIES SHOULD TAKE

NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS IMMEDIATELY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL

BROOKS AND STREAMS...HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY...COUNTRY

ROADS AND FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF BROOKS...STREAMS AND OTHER LOW

LYING AREAS ARE SUBJECT TO FLOODING.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE

ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS

SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

A FLOOD WARNING MEANS FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT. MOST

FLOOD RELATED DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS

WATER COVERED BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW WATER CROSSINGS. NEVER TRY TO
