Rainfall warning in effect for:
- Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick
A low pressure system will deepen quickly as it tracks north past the Great Lakes tonight. This system will affect New Brunswick for most of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day pushing a large area of heavy rain across the regions.
The rain will become heavy after midnight and persist for most of Christmas Day. Total Rainfall amounts of 30-40 millimetres are expected for much of the province, but amounts will be higher over southern sections where 40-55 millimetres are expected by Thursday evening.
Additionally, higher than normal water levels combined with rough and pounding surf can be expected along parts of the east coast during high tide on Christmas Day.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required. Stay up to date with Weatheradio or your local media. Email reports of severe weather to weatherASPC@ec.gc.ca or call 1-877-815-9900. You may tweet reports using the hashtag #NBStorm.
