URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAY ME
1033 PM EST SAT FEB 14 2015

...MAJOR WINTER STORM CONTINUES INTO SUNDAY...

.LOW PRESSURE WILL INTENSIFY RAPIDLY AS IT PASSES CAPE COD
TONIGHT... EVENTUALLY MOVING TOWARD NOVA SCOTIA BY SUNDAY
EVENING. SNOW WILL INCREASE IN INTENSITY THIS EVENING AND
OVERNIGHT. NORTHEAST WINDS WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE MARKEDLY LATE
TONIGHT AS THE LOW EXPLOSIVELY DEEPENS OFFSHORE. THE COMBINATION
OF HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS WILL LEAD TO BLIZZARD CONDITIONS
IN THE BLIZZARD WARNING AREA... AND PERHAPS NEAR-BLIZZARD
CONDITIONS AT TIMES IN THE WINTER STORM WARNING AREA. THE HEIGHT
OF BLIZZARD CONDITIONS IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR DURING THE DAYLIGHT
HOURS ON SUNDAY. WIND GUSTS APPROACHING OR PERHAPS EVEN EXCEEDING
50 MPH AT TIMES WILL LEAD TO SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES. RESIDENTS
ARE URGED TO STAY PUT LATE TONIGHT AND SUNDAY AS CONDITIONS WILL
BE TOO DANGEROUS TO VENTURE OUT. HAVE A PLAN IN PLACE TO SAFELY
KEEP WARM IF POWER DOES GO OUT.

ADVISORY FOR SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EST SUNDAY
NIGHT. A WIND CHILL ADVISORY HAS ALSO BEEN ISSUED. THIS WIND CHILL
ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EST SUNDAY NIGHT. THE WINTER
STORM WARNING HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

* HAZARD TYPES...HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 4 TO 6 INCHES.

* TIMING...LIGHT SNOW INCREASES IN INTENSITY TONIGHT. SNOW ENDS
  SUNDAY EVENING BUT BLOWING SNOW CONTINUES INTO MONDAY.

* IMPACTS...HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT
  BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. TRAVEL WILL BE HAZARDOUS WITH SNOW
  COVERED ROADS AND LOW VISIBILITY. WIND CHILL VALUES ARE
  EXPECTED TO BE WELL BELOW ZERO SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT.

* WINDS...NORTH 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 45 MPH.

* VISIBILITIES...ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES.

* TEMPERATURES...8 BELOW TO 7 ABOVE ZERO.

* WIND CHILL...AS LOW AS 36 BELOW DUE TO TEMPERATURES 8 BELOW TO
  7 ABOVE ZERO...AND WINDS NORTH 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO
  45 MPH.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS THAT
VISIBILITIES WILL BE LIMITED DUE TO A COMBINATION OF FALLING AND
BLOWING SNOW. USE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING... ESPECIALLY IN OPEN
AREAS.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS
WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN
FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.
IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS...MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND
GLOVES.
