Winter storm warning in effect for:
  • Yarmouth County
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

A low pressure system over the Gulf of Maine will intensify as it tracks south of Nova Scotia tonight. The low will slowly move east on Wednesday to lie south of Newfoundland by evening. This system will spread snow, strong winds, and blowing snow across Nova Scotia tonight and into Wednesday. Snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 centimetres is expected over northern and western Nova Scotia and up to 40 centimetres elsewhere in Nova Scotia by Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, 15 to 20 centimetres are expected in Prince Edward Island. In addition, winds will increase on Wednesday with gusts up to 80 km/h giving reduced visibilities in blowing snow.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. For information on emergency plans and kits go to http://www.getprepared.gc.ca/

Winter Storm Warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
