Freezing rain warning in effect for:
  • Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
A long-lasting period of freezing rain resulting in ice accumulation is expected or occurring.

A low pressure system will track south of the Nova Scotia late in the day Saturday and overnight.

This system will bring a mix of snow, ice pellets, freezing rain, and rain across the province beginning in the morning in the west and spreading to the east by afternoon.

An extended period of freezing rain is forecast to persist through much of the day Saturday and into Saturday evening over central regions of Nova Scotia with areas further north receiving mainly a mix of snow and ice pellets and some southern areas experiencing a change over from freezing rain to rain. Precipitation will change over to snow Saturday night before ending overnight as the system continues eastward south of Newfoundland.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Beware of branches or electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to weatherASPC@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #NSStorm.
