3:58 PM AST Friday 06 January 2017
Winter storm warning in effect for:

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

A low pressure system will intensify as it tracks south of Nova Scotia Saturday night. Snow will begin Saturday afternoon in southwestern Nova Scotia

and will spread over the remainder of the province by Saturday evening. Snow at times heavy will continue throughout the night as the low tracks

south of Nova Scotia to be south of Cape Breton by Sunday morning. Strong northeasterly winds will develop by Sunday morning as the low

intensifies resulting in blowing snow. Snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are expected over Northern Nova Scotia and 30 to 40 elsewhere.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and

blowing snow. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine,

a first-aid kit and a flashlight.

Winter storm watch in effect for:

Prince County P.E.I.
A low pressure system will pass south of Nova Scotia Saturday night and will bring snow to the region Saturday night and into Sunday. Total snowfall

amounts are likely to exceed snowfall warning criteria, as long range model guidance is suggesting. Also strong winds combined with the snow are

likely to give reduced visibilities in blowing snow as well during the day Sunday.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Poor weather

conditions may contribute to transportation delays.

Winter storm watches are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Avoid travel if possible. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
