Winter Storm Odell Update Three

Rainfall warning in effect for:

Lunenburg County
Rain, heavy at times is expected.

Total rainfall: generally 20 to 30 mm.

Locations: along the coast.

Time span: this afternoon and early this evening.

Remarks: Rain will continue over southwestern Nova Scotia today. Rain may be mixed with ice pellets near noon over Queens and Lunenburg Counties. Rain will taper off this evening. Rainfall amounts may exceed 30 mm in the heaviest rain.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Colchester County North
Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.

Location: Cumberland County and northern Colchester County.

Time span: this afternoon and early this evening.

Remarks: Heavy snow, at times mixed with ice pellets, will begin near noon or early this afternoon over northwestern Nova Scotia. Precipitation will transition to a period of ice pellets mixed with rain later this evening. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm are expected, but greater amounts are possible over higher terrain and near the New Brunswick border.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Stanley - Doaktown - Blackville Area
Snowfall with total amounts of 20 to 30 cm is expected.

Total Snowfall: 15 to 30 cm, except less than 15 along parts of the Fundy coast.

Locations: all of New Brunswick except the northeast, where a winter storm warning is in effect.

Time span: this afternoon and tonight.

Remarks: Snow, heavy at times, has begun over the extreme Southwest and will spread across New Brunswick by this afternoon. Strong north to northeast winds will give occasional blowing snow late this afternoon and this evening. Over southern parts of the province, the snow is expected to mix with or change to ice pellets this evening. Extreme southern regions could see a brief rain-snow mix after midnight. All precipitation will taper to flurries by Friday morning.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
