...LATE SEASON HEAVY, WET SNOW LIKELY THIS AFTERNOON INTO
FRIDAY...

.A quick developing and potent storm system will approach the New
England coast today and cross the region by Friday. Temperatures
will fall this afternoon and level off very close to freezing for
much of the northern half of the area. This could mean the
rain/snow line will move quickly over a short period of time
resulting in large differences in snowfall amounts over a small
distances. In the warning area, the majority of the precipitation
is anticipated to fall as snow with significant accumulations and
periods of heavy snow possible.

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO
8 AM EDT FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 10
  inches expected.

* WHERE...Kennebec and Interior Waldo Counties.

* WHEN...From 2 PM this afternoon to 8 AM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous
  conditions could impact the evening commute. The snow may be wet
  and heavy with the potential for scattered power outages due to
  downed tree limbs.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra
flashlight...food...and water in your vehicle in case of an
emergency.

Winter storm warning in effect for:

Acadian Peninsula
Heavy snowfall and high winds are expected.

Total snowfall: 20 to 30 cm.

Maximum wind gusts: 90 km/h.

Locations: Acadian Peninsula

Time span: Tonight until late Friday

Remarks: Snow heavy at times will begin tonight and continue through much of Friday. Strong winds and blowing snow may cause reduced visibility with the worst part of the storm likely to be early Friday.

Conditions will gradually improve later on Friday.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Storm surge warning in effect for:

Acadian Peninsula
High Storm Surge levels and large waves are expected to impact the coast.

Locations: Acadian coastline from Miramichi north and into the Bay of Chaleur.

Maximum water levels: exceeding high astronomical tide.

Time span: Overnight Thursday and Friday morning

High tide: 6 A.M. to 9 A.M. Friday.

Remarks: Storm surge will coincide with high astronomical tide to produce significantly elevated water levels.

Coastal flooding is possible along the shoreline. People close to the shoreline should stay on the lookout for worsening conditions.

Storm surge warnings are issued when water levels pose a threat to coastal regions.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Queens County P.E.I.
Snowfall with total amounts of about 15 cm is expected.

Locations: central and western Prince Edward Island.

Time span: late this evening until Friday morning.

Remarks: Snow will develop this evening and change to rain Friday morning.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Wind warning in effect for:

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Maximum gusts: easterly 70 to 80 km/h, except 90 along parts of the coast.

Locations: Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

Time span: Will develop over western Nova Scotia this evening and spread eastward overnight.

Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
