...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 8 PM EDT

THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 98 expected.

* WHERE...Penobscot County and southern Piscataquis County.

* WHEN...From noon to 8 PM EDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat

  illnesses to occur.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out

of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young

children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles

under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When

possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or

evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat

stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when

possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational

Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent

rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone

overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

Heat Warning in effect for:

Fredericton and Southern York County

A period of hot and humid weather is occurring. Humidex values between 36 to 40 are expected the next 2 days.

Time span: through Friday.

Maximum temperatures: 30 to 32 degrees Celsius (Humidex reaching 36 to 40), cooler along parts of the coast.

Minimum overnight temperatures: 18 degrees Celsius.

Locations: central and southern New Brunswick.

Remarks: High humidity will bring little relief in the overnight hours. Cooler conditions can be expected along parts of the coast during this event. Some uncertainty remains with the ending of this humidity. Conditions may persist into the weekend.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

A period of hot and humid weather is occurring. Humidex values of over 36 are forecast for the next 4 days.

Time span: through Sunday.

Maximum temperatures: 29 to 32 degrees Celsius (Humidex reaching 36 to 40), cooler along parts of the coast.

Minimum overnight temperatures: 18 degrees Celsius.

Locations: Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

Remarks: High humidity will bring little relief in the overnight hours. Cooler conditions can be expected along parts of the coast during this event. Conditions are expected to persist throughout the weekend with an improvement to humidity expected on Monday.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
