Second Mid-October Storm Update One

Rainfall warning in effect for:

Fredericton and Southern York County

Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

Heavy rainfall expected tonight and Wednesday.

Additional rainfall: 30 to 50 mm.

Location: western New Brunswick and portions of central New Brunswick.

Time span: ending Wednesday afternoon or evening.

Remarks: An area of disorganized showers moving into New Brunswick will become persistent rain, heavy at time, this evening and into Wednesday. Rainfall rates will occasionally be very high, and accumulations could vary greatly over small distances due to the convective nature of the event.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Special weather statement in effect for:

Saint John and County

Heavy rainfall is expected.

Additional rainfall: 20 to 40 mm over a 24 hour period.

Locations: portions of southern and northern New Brunswick.

Time span: continuing until Wednesday evening.

Remarks: Rainfall amounts will vary as bands of heavier rain move through the region. Rainfall rates will occasionally be high which will lead excessive water runoff and water pooling on roadways giving difficult driving conditions. Total rainfall amounts will be high for some localities due to the long duration of the rain, which may not end until Wednesday evening.

A rainfall warning has been issued for all of western New Brunswick and parts of central New Brunswick.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

Yarmouth County

Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

Total rainfall amount: 30 to 50 mm. Possibly exceeding 50 mm in areas of heaviest downpours.

Location: Digby, Yarmouth, and Shelburne Counties.

Time span: this evening through Wednesday afternoon.

Remarks: An area of rain with embedded thundershowers is streaming over the area and will continue to do so for the next 24 hours or so. Areas that receive thundershowers could see total amounts exceeding 50 mm in the next 24 hours.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
