Driving rain and howling winds forced the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival to shut down Saturday, although organizers were able to move to Mile One Centre.
Stormy, cold weather turned Bannerman Park in St. John's into a mess, and organizers said they could not safely proceed with daytime sessions.
"There was a lot of mud. There are a lot of puddles of rain," said Gord Delaney, one of the three-day festival's organizers.
"The rain was blowing in on the stage which would affect the performers with electrical equipment and it was a disaster up there."
Morning and afternoon sessions were cancelled, although evening performances were relocated to Mile One, which will also be home for the Sunday sessions.
Delaney said the rain has had a big impact on ticket sales for this year's festival.
"It would be nice if it's a warm summer night but to come out to the low teens and even lower than that in the rain certainly affected our numbers," he said.
