SPECIAL WEATHER SUMMARY MESSAGE FOR NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR ISSUED 
BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 3:50 PM NST MONDAY 13 FEBRUARY 2012.

AN INTENSE STORM SYSTEM DEVELOPED SOUTH OF NOVA SCOTIA ON SATURDAY 
AND TRACKED NORTHWARD INTO THE GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE ON SUNDAY.
THIS STORM AFFECTED THE ENTIRE PROVINCE. HEAVY RAIN AND HURRICANE 
FORCE WIND GUSTS CAUSED FLOODING AND POWER OUTAGES OVER PARTS OF THE 
ISLAND.

AN INTENSIFYING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM APPROACHED THE MARITIMES FROM
THE SOUTHWEST ON SATURDAY, PASSING OVER EASTERN NOVA SCOTIA SATURDAY 
NIGHT. PRECIPITATION STARTED SATURDAY AFTERNOON AS RAIN FOR MOST 
AREAS. THE ATLANTIC COAST CONTINUED TO RAIN THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT 
BEFORE CHANGING OVER TO A BRIEF PERIOD OF FREEZING RAIN AND THEN TO 
FLURRIES BY MORNING. THE REMAINDER OF THE PROVINCE CHANGED OVER TO 
SNOW EARLY SATURDAY EVENING WITH A BRIEF PERIOD OF FREEZING RAIN 
BEFORE MORNING.

ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 10:01 AM AST SUNDAY 12 FEBRUARY 2012.

AN INTENSIFYING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM APPROACHED THE MARITIMES FROM
THE SOUTHWEST ON SATURDAY, PASSING OVER EASTERN NOVA SCOTIA SATURDAY 
NIGHT. PRECIPITATION STARTED AS RAIN FOR SOME AREAS BUT QUICKLY 
CHANGED OVER TO SNOW. AS THE LONG PASSED AND TEMPERATURES
DROPPED BELOW FREEZING, THE WINDS INCREASED FROM THE NORTH AND 
COMBINED WITH THE SNOW GAVE NEAR ZERO VISIBILITIES EARLIER THIS 
MORNING. THIS WAS A SIGNIFICANT STORM THAT BROUGHT HEAVY SNOW,
STRONG WINDS, AND BLOWING SNOW TO MUCH OF THE ISLAND ALONG WITH 
FREEZING RAIN OVER EASTERN SECTIONS.

AN INTENSIFYING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM APPROACHED THE MARITIMES FROM
THE SOUTHWEST ON SATURDAY, PASSING OVER EASTERN NOVA SCOTIA SATURDAY 
NIGHT. PRECIPITATION STARTED AS RAIN IN SOUTHEASTERN NEW BRUNSWICK 
WELL AHEAD OF THE LOW BUT CHANGED TO SNOW AS THE STORM APPROACHED. 
SNOW ENDED OVERNIGHT IN WESTERN REGIONS AND TAPERED TO FLURRIES 
SUNDAY MORNING IN EASTERN REGIONS. MOST OF THE SNOW FELL OVER THE 
EASTERN HALF OF THE PROVINCE.
