* PRECIPITATION TYPE...SNOW. AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS...IN EXCESS OF 7 INCHES OF SNOW POSSIBLE.

* TIMING...SATURDAY AFTERNOON INTO SUNDAY MORNING.

* TEMPERATURES...AROUND 30 TO THE LOWER 30S SATURDAY AFTERNOON...
   THEN FALLING THROUGH THE TEENS SATURDAY NIGHT.

Winter storm warning for
Queens County P.E.I. continued

Up to 30 centimetres of snow with blowing snow Saturday night.

This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are expected in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system will bring significant snowfall and blowing snow to Prince Edward Island this weekend. The precipitation will begin as flurries and showers Saturday morning and intensify Saturday evening. Heavy snow is expected with snowfall totals up to 30 cm forecast over central and western regions. Eastern regions will see lesser amounts as the heavy snow will change to freezing rain and ice pellets for a period overnight. A prolonged period of freezing rain is possible with the potential for significant icing. Strong northeasterly winds will develop Saturday night as well which will cause reduced visibilities in blowing snow. The precipitation will eventually all change back to snow as temperatures drop by Sunday morning then taper to flurries during the day Sunday as the low pressure system moves away from the region.

A low pressure system will bring mixed precipitation including significant snowfall and rainfall to Nova Scotia this weekend. The precipitation will begin as showers and flurries Saturday morning and intensify Saturday evening. Heavy snow is expected over Northern Nova Scotia and the Annapolis Valley with snowfall totals up to 30 cm forecast. Strong northeasterly winds will develop Saturday night as well which will cause reduced visibilities in blowing snow. Meanwhile, heavy rain is expected for Atlantic coastal areas and Cape Breton Saturday night with rainfall totals of up to 40 mm forecast. An area of freezing rain and ice pellets will develop along the rain-snow boundary. A prolonged period of freezing rain is possible with the potential for significant icing. The precipitation will eventually all change to snow as temperatures drop Sunday morning then taper to flurries during the day Sunday as the low pressure system moves away from the region.

Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick continued

Up to 30 cm of snowfall with blowing snow expected by Sunday morning.

An elongated trough of low pressure will move southward across the province tonight and Saturday to lie over Nova Scotia by evening. A low pressure system is forecast to develop and intensify as it moves northeastward along the trough crossing Cape Breton overnight Saturday. Flurries or light snow will become heavier later in the day Saturday as the low approaches. Total snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm is forecast for the above mentioned regions. Strong northerly winds will cause blowing snow, especially over open and exposed areas.
