Winter Storm Falco Update One

Winter storm watch for
Halifax County - east of Porters Lake issued

Snow and some blowing snow Wednesday with amounts 10 to 15 centimetres.

This is a warning that significant snowfall is expected in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system developing off the eastern us seaboard this afternoon will track northeastward to lie over the Gulf of Maine Wednesday morning. It will then intensify as it tracks near Southwestern Nova Scotia to lie over Cape Breton Wednesday evening.

Snow ahead of this system will begin over Southwestern Nova Scotia late this evening then spread across the mainland overnight and then Cape Breton early Wednesday morning. Snowfall totals of 20 to 25 centimetres are expected over western regions with amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres for eastern regions where the snow is forecast to change to rain. The precipitation will gradually end from west to east later in the day Wednesday.

In addition Les Suetes winds gusting to 140 km/h are forecast Wednesday afternoon as the low approaches Cape Breton.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts as additional warnings may be required.
