Open-air burning prohibited in the Halifax area
Municipal ban takes priority over any restrictions currently imposed by the province's DNR
The ban has been triggered by extremely dry conditions reported by fire officials.
It means residents cannot burn at any time anywhere in the municipality. That includes outdoor fireplaces and chimneys.
The municipal ban has been put in place by Halifax Fire and Emergency and overrides any restrictions imposed by Nova Scotia's Department of Natural Resources.
Usually the municipality mirrors DNR restrictions but the municipality's fire services can be more restrictive than the province in cases where it is warranted.
Residents are allowed to use natural gas or propane fire pits while the burn ban in on.
The municipality will announce when the open-air burning ban is lifted.
