Winter Storm Ethan Another Dose Of Christmas Chaos Update Four

3:55 PM AST Monday 25 December 2017
Wind warning in effect for:

Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

An intense low pressure system entering the Bay of Fundy will move northeastward to lie over the Gulf of St. Lawrence this evening.

Very strong and gusty west to southwest winds gusting to 110 km/h have already developed over western areas of the province, and they are expected to spread to eastern areas later this afternoon. These winds will diminish over western areas this evening and overnight tonight over eastern areas.

In addition, very large waves causing heavy pounding surf will combine to give higher than normal water levels along shorelines where very strong southwesterly winds and waves come onshore near high tide tonight. The main threat is for the tri-county area.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor the development of this storm and provide updates as new information becomes available.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.weatheraspc.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #NSStorm.
