...Major flooding possible this weekend into early next week...

.The combination of heavy rainfall and rapid snowmelt in areas
that still have significant snowpack will bring many streams out
of their banks by Saturday or Saturday night. The larger rivers
will see rises this weekend with moderate to major flooding at
some locations by Sunday that will likely continue through early
next week. There remains uncertainty as to whether any of the
rivers will reach record flood stage.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY
EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of Central Highlands, Far Eastern
Maine, North Woods, and Penobscot Valley.

* From Saturday morning through Monday evening.

* The combination of rainfall of 1.5 to 2.5 inches along with
significant snowmelt in areas that still have snow on the ground
will lead to significant rises on streams this weekend, and on
rivers this weekend and into early next week.

* There is high confidence that smaller streams will flood. There
is also high confidence that some area rivers will experience
moderate to major flooding Sunday into early next week.
Confidence is not as high as to whether any areas experience
record flooding, but it is a possibility.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
