...LONG LASTING WINTER STORM WILL BRING SNOW THROUGH TUESDAY...

.A complex low pressure system is moving out of the Midwest and
Great Lakes today. Snow is likely to begin in southern New
Hampshire this evening with a period of heavy snow likely
overnight Sunday night into early Monday morning. Snow is expected
to decrease in intensity during the day on Monday with another
round of heavier snow possible Monday night into Tuesday primarily
affecting the coastal plain of Maine. Due to the long duration
nature of this winter storm, storm total snowfall amounts will be
hard to forecast and hard to measure. However, the prolonged
period of snow will lead to wintry driving conditions lasting into
Tuesday.

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY
AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 6 or
  more inches possible through Tuesday. Gusty winds will be
  possible on Tuesday.

* WHERE...Portions of south central Maine.

* WHEN...From late tonight through Tuesday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Heavy snow could make travel difficult. This could
  affect the morning and evening commutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow...sleet...or ice accumulations that may impact travel.

Special weather statement in effect for:

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
Prolonged period of snow, rain and freezing rain is expected.

A mixture of precipitation types is expected on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Time span: Monday morning until Wednesday morning.

Locations: Nova Scotia

Remarks: Snow or rain is expected to start in southwestern Nova Scotia Monday morning. Precipitation will spread very slowly northward and eastward across the province Monday and Monday night reaching northern areas of the province by early Tuesday morning. There are indications that some areas of the province could receive a prolonged period of freezing rain Monday night. Also some areas could get a period of heavy rain on Tuesday. followed by a changeover to snow Tuesday night. It is too soon to predict how much of each precipitation type will occur and when it will occur given uncertainty in the track of the system.

Queens County P.E.I.
Significant snow, rain or ice pellets expected.

Locations: Prince Edward Island

Time span: Early Tuesday morning until Wednesday morning.

Remarks: Snow, rain and ice pellets will develop early Tuesday morning and persist until Wednesday morning. At this time, snow and ice pellets are most likely over western areas and rain over eastern areas. However, there is a lot of uncertainty in precipitation type and this forecast could change.

Fredericton and Southern York County
Significant snow and ice pellets with a risk of freezing rain is expected. Rain is also possible in the southeast.

Locations: New Brunswick except for northwestern areas.

Time span: Early Tuesday morning until early Wednesday morning.

Remarks: Snow and ice pellets are forecast to begin early Tuesday morning over southern New Brunswick. Precipitation will spread across the province, reaching northeastern areas in the afternoon. The snow will end overnight Tuesday night over western areas and early Wednesday morning over eastern areas.
