At 900 AM EST...The surface low that brought moderate to heavy
snow across northern New England yesterday was moving off
Newfoundland into the northern Atlantic.  Clear and cold
conditions prevail across much of the Northeast except a couple of
areas of light to moderate downwind of the Lake Erie across
western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania near a stationary
front.

An intense low pressure system approached the Maritimes on Thursday
and tracked across the Bay of Fundy and out into the Gulf of St.
Lawrence on Friday. This system brought heavy snow to northern New
Brunswick, and mixed snow, ice pellets and freezing rain to central
and southern regions.

Discussion.

An intense low pressure system approached the Maritimes on Thursday
and tracked across the Bay of Fundy and into the Gulf of St.
Lawrence on Friday. This system initially brought snow on Thursday
which then changed to an extended period of freezing rain and ice
pellets. In the wake of the system very strong southwest winds
developed which were quickly followed by plunging temperatures.
