Winter Storm Dane Update Five

10:40 AM AST Monday 30 November 2020

Rainfall warning in effect for:

Fredericton and Southern York County

A long episode of heavy rain is expected.

Maximum rainfall amounts: 80 to 130 mm, except possibly exceeding 150 mm in the extreme southwestern region of the province.

Locations: most of southwestern and central New Brunswick.

Time span: this evening through Wednesday morning.

Remarks: A slow moving, intense low pressure system will move into New England later today and into Quebec on Wednesday. This system will pump frequent periods of heavy rain into the province beginning this evening and continuing on Tuesday before easing off Wednesday morning or early afternoon.

At this time, rainfall amounts are expected to be heaviest in the southwestern portion of the province where rainfall amounts of 80 to 130 mm are possible by late Tuesday with additional amounts expected on Tuesday night and into Wednesday, potentially giving total rainfall in excess of 150 mm in some areas before ending on Wednesday.

Similar rainfall events in the past have caused road washouts and localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Don't approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Locations: Yarmouth and Digby counties

Time span: tonight through Wednesday morning.

Remarks: An intense low pressure system will move into New England later today. Rain ahead of this system will reach western Nova Scotia near midnight tonight and become heavy at times by Tuesday morning. Heavy rain will then continue until Wednesday morning when a slow moving cold front eventually passes over the area.

Total rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm are expected by Tuesday evening with additional significant amounts expected Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
