...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM TUESDAY TO 2 AM EST
WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy Snow and mixed precipitation expected. Patchy
  Blowing snow late Monday night through Tuesday morning. Total
  snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches, sleet accumulations of
  around one quarter of an inch and ice accumulations of up to one
  tenth of an inch expected. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

* WHERE...Southern Penobscot and Interior Hancock Counties.

* WHEN...From 2 AM Tuesday to 2 AM EST Wednesday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult. The
  hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening
  commute. Power outages are possible.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous
  conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening
  commutes. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees
  and power lines.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet
and ice will make travel extremely dangerous.

Wind warning in effect for:

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Maximum gusts: easterly 80 km/h, except 100 km/h along parts of the coast.

Locations: Atlantic coast of mainland Nova Scotia.

Time span: Tuesday morning and afternoon, persisting into the evening over eastern Nova Scotia.

Remarks: In addition to the strong easterly winds, higher than normal water levels and large waves are expected along the Atlantic Coast near high tide Tuesday night.

High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

Total rainfall: 40 to 70 mm.

Locations: Atlantic coastal counties of mainland Nova Scotia.

Time span: Tuesday and Tuesday night.

Remarks: Snow will change to rain, at times heavy Tuesday morning in the southwest and Tuesday afternoon in the east. The rain will taper to showers Wednesday morning or afternoon.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Prince County P.E.I.
Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.

Locations: Prince County.

Time span: Tuesday morning until late Tuesday afternoon.

Remarks: Total snowfall amounts of up to 25 cm followed by a period of ice pellets or freezing rain before changing to rain Tuesday evening. Strong easterly winds may give blowing snow Tuesday afternoon. In addition, higher than normal water levels and large waves are expected at high tide Tuesday night.

Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Grand Manan and Coastal Charlotte County
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Maximum wind gusts: 100 km/h.

Time span: Tuesday morning until Tuesday afternoon.

Location: coastal Charlotte County.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Fredericton and Southern York County
Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 30 cm is expected.

Time span: early Tuesday morning through midnight Tuesday night.

Locations: southern, eastern, and central New Brunswick, except the Fundy Coast.

Remarks: Snow will begin over southern New Brunswick in the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday morning, and spread northeastward by noon, becoming heavy at times. Snow will become mixed with, or transition to ice pellets in the afternoon before eventually changing to rain. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 cm are expected. The rainfall that is expected with this system will also be significant later Tuesday night and Wednesday, and rainfall warnings may also be issued with future forecasts.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult.
