Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Total snowfall: 15 to 25 cm.

Maximum wind gusts: 60 to 70 km/h, 90 km/h along coastal regions.

Locations: northern New Brunswick.

Time span: Wednesday.

Remarks: Snow, at times heavy, will begin early Wednesday morning over western New Brunswick and quickly spread east. Strong southeasterly winds will accompany the snow, leading to reduced visibilities in blowing snow. Snow will transition to rain over central and parts of northern New Brunswick Wednesday afternoon. A brief period of freezing rain or ice pellets is possible during this transition.

Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NBstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #NBStorm.

3:39 PM AST Tuesday 9 January 2024
Rainfall, combined with melting snow, is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.

Total rainfall: 20 to 40 mm.

Location: most of Nova Scotia.

Time span: Wednesday.

Remarks: Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and mild temperatures will lead to significant to near total melting of the existing snow pack. The combination of run-off and rainfall will increase the risk of localized flooding in poor drainage areas.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NSstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #NSStorm.

Location: most of Nova Scotia.

Time span: spreading from west to east beginning Wednesday morning in the southwest and reaching Cape Breton Island by Wednesday afternoon.

Remarks: Areas with saturated ground are at increased risk for uprooting of trees, especially in areas already impacted by recent major wind storms.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NSstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #NSStorm.

Flood Watch
National Weather Service Gray ME
231 PM EST Tue Jan 9 2024

.Heavy rain will almost completely melt out the snowpack in the
watch area. This will combine with 1 to 2 inches of rainfall to
produce flash flooding of small streams and poor drainage in urban
areas. The deeper snowpack from the foothills northward is expected
to hold, reducing the flood risk in those areas.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM EST THIS EVENING THROUGH
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall and snow melt
  continue to be possible.

* WHERE...Portions of Maine, including the following areas,

Rockingham, Eastern Hillsborough, Interior Rockingham, Merrimack,
Strafford and Western And Central Hillsborough.

* WHEN...From 10 PM EST this evening through Wednesday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Flooding is likely to occur in poor drainage and urban
areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with snow and
other debris. Rapid rises along small streams will also be
  possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Heavy rainfall along with warm temperatures will cause
melting of the snowpack south of the foothills. The runoff
will be rapid due to the frozen ground conditions, supporting
the potential for flash flooding in urban areas as well as
small stream crossings. Travel across the watch area will be
impacted as numerous roads are likely to flood.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor the latest forecast and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living or commuting in areas prone to flooding
should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
