Remnants of Hurricane Beryl To Soak The Region, Alerts Issued

Potential for significant rainfall early Thursday into Friday.

Locations: Prince Edward Island

A slow-moving and somewhat disorganized weather system will move into the region beginning early Thursday morning and linger into Friday. While the rain could be intermittent through this period, complicating matters is that tropical moisture from the remnants of Beryl is expected to feed into this system. This could potentially enhance rainfall amounts and increase the risk of heavy rainfall rates. 

The evolution of this system will be closely monitored, and rainfall warnings may be required for areas most at risk.

Similar events in the past have brought heavy downpours and pooling of water, as well as localized flooding in low-lying areas.

While the rain could be intermittent through this period, complicating matters is that tropical moisture from the remnants of Beryl is expected to feed into this system. This could potentially enhance rainfall amounts and increase the risk of heavy rainfall rates.

A few thunderstorms containing gusty winds and locally heavy

rainfall are possible this afternoon. Heavy rainfall in thunderstorms

may lead to ponding of water and runoff in low lying areas.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday.

Locally heavy rainfall appears likely Wednesday night into early

Thursday as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl move through. Heavy rain

may lead to localized flooding over portions of the area. Details on

amounts and locations are still uncertain at this time.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY EVENING THROUGH THURSDAY

MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of Central Highlands and Penobscot Valley Maine,

  including the following areas, in Central Highlands Maine, Central

  Piscataquis and Southern Piscataquis. In Penobscot Valley Maine,

  Southern Penobscot.

* WHEN...From Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of small rivers,

  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

  Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Excessive

  rainfall may cause significant washouts of dirt and gravel roads

  along with ATV trails.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - Remnants of Beryl will combine with a nearly stationary front

    to enhance rainfall rates across portions of the Central

    Highlands. Widespread rainfall of 1-2 inches with isolated

    higher amounts may cause excessive runoff.
