Extratropical Storm Hanna Regional Warnings; New Warning Issued for New Brunswick Update 2

Emergency Measures Organization

Flash flood warning issued (08/09/06)

NB 1278

Sept. 6, 2008

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following flash flood warning is issued by the Emergency Measures Organization on Saturday, Sept. 6:

Tropical Storm Hanna will bring wind and heavy rain to Atlantic Canada on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 7 and 8. Significant rainfall will occur with the greatest amounts in the southern half of New Brunswick.

Environment Canada advises that rainfall of up to 80 mm (three inches) is probable and local amounts of 100mm (four inches) are possible. Environment Canada is not forecasting a storm surge for this event; coastal areas, however, will experience high surf.

Rainfall in these amounts can result in rapid water level increases in streams and rivers and localized flash flooding. Power outages are also possible.

People living or working along watercourses or the southern and eastern coastlines of the province should take steps to protect their property and remain on alert until the storm has passed.

People should be particularly cautious in coastal areas because of high winds, heavy rain and dangerous surf. This advisory will be of particular concern to those who have been affected by similar storms in the past.
