Winter storm watch for
Buchans and the interior continued

Significant snowfall amounts, strong winds and blowing snow are expected.

This is an alert to the potential development of dangerous winter weather conditions in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system near the Great Lakes will intensify as it tracks northeastward approaching Newfoundland tonight. Strong easterly winds are expected to spread across the island ahead of this system with gusts to 120 km/h expected in the Wreckhouse area overnight tonight and gusts to 90 km/h along parts of the coast on Saturday.

Snow will develop ahead of this system tonight over Southwestern Newfoundland and will spread to the remainder of the island by Saturday morning.

For Central and Western Newfoundland: there is potential for significant snowfall amounts, high winds and reduced visibilities in blowing snow. Snow may be mixed with ice pellets along the west coast.

For Southern Newfoundland: snow is expected to change through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain. There is potential for significant snowfall before this changeover. High winds are also expected with this system.
