Acadian Peninsula
3:59 PM AST Wednesday 30 January 2013
Wind warning for
Acadian Peninsula issued

This is a warning that potentially damaging winds gusting to 90 km/h are expected tonight and Thursday in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system over Southwestern Quebec will intensify tonight and Thursday as it moves northeast towards Labrador. Spotty freezing rain will persist until early this evening along parts of the Bay of Chaleur. Otherwise periods of rain are expected tonight and Thursday before ending early Thursday evening. Rainfall amounts are generally expected to be in the 15 to 25 mm range except for Northwest New Brunswick and parts of the Fundy coast which will see higher amounts ranging from 25 to 40 mm.

Strong south to southwest winds will also develop across New Brunswick tonight with southernmost regions likely experiencing gusts near 90 km/h except in the tantramar area where gusts to 110 km/h are expected beginning overnight tonight. The Acadian Peninsula should also experience gusts near 90 km/h Thursday afternoon.

As this low pressure system moves away from the region later Thursday a cold westerly flow will develop. As a result temperatures are expected to drop rapidly Thursday evening causing potentially dangerous driving conditions as rain that has accumulated through the day may quickly freeze.

Rough pounding surf and large waves can be expected along the Bay of Fundy tonight and Thursday.
