1. SUMMARY OF BASIC INFORMATION AT 9.00 AM ADT.
LOCATION: NEAR 44.2 NORTH 67.1 WEST.
ABOUT 92 KILOMETRES WEST-NORTHWEST OF YARMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS: 75 KM/H.
PRESENT MOVEMENT: NORTHEAST NEAR 63 KM/H.
MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE: 1000 MB.
2. PUBLIC WEATHER IMPACTS AND WARNINGS SUMMARY.
POST-TROPICAL STORM ANDREA IS MOVING INTO THE FUNDY SHORE OF NOVA
SCOTIA ALONG A WARM FRONT THAT EXTENDS AHEAD OF THE LOW. RAIN AT
TIMES HEAVY ASSOCIATED WITH THE SYSTEM HAS SPREAD ACROSS MUCH OF THE
MARITIMES AND HAS STARTED OVER SOUTHWESTERN NEWFOUNDLAND THIS
AFTERNOON.
THE SOUTH COAST OF NEWFOUNDLAND WILL RECEIVE HEAVY RAIN TONIGHT INTO
SUNDAY MORNING. THE CENTRE OF THE REMNANT LOW IS EXPECTED TO TRACK
ACROSS NORTHERN NOVA SCOTIA LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT AND THEN
JUST SOUTH OF NEWFOUNDLAND BEFORE CROSSING THE AVALON PENINSULA ON
SUNDAY.
PONDING OF WATER ALONG THE ROADS AND HRYDROPLANING WILL BE A PROBLEM,
AS WELL AS LOCAL FLOODING, ESPECIALLY ALONG THE SMALLER RIVERS AND
STREAMS. LOCAL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF 60 MILLIMETRES HAVE BEEN
REPORTED, ESPECIALLY ALONG THE ANNAPOLIS VALLEY AND FUNDY SHORE OF
NOVA SCOTIA, AND THE FUNDY COAST OF NEW BRUNSWICK, WHERE 90
MILLIMETRES WAS REPORTED OVER GRAND MANAN ISLAND.
A. WIND.
A LES SUETES WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE WESTERN SIDE OF THE
CAPE BRETON HIGHLANDS FOR SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS GUSTING UP TO 110 KM/H
BEGINNING THIS AFTERNOON. IN ADDITION A WRECKHOUSE WIND WARNING IS
IN EFFECT FOR NEWFOUNDLAND FOR TONIGHT WHERE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO
GUST TO 110 KM/H.
ELSEWHERE WINDS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO REACH WARNING CRITERIA (GUSTS OF
90 KM/H). HOWEVER MOST OF THE REGION WILL EXPERIENCE MODERATELY
WINDY CONDITIONS. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL LIKELY BE SOUTH OF THE
TRACK OF THE CENTRE OF THE REMNANT LOW LATER TODAY - WHICH COULD GIVE
GUSTS UP TO 70 KM/H TO EXPOSED AREAS OF NOVA SCOTIA ESPECIALLY ALONG
THE ATLANTIC COAST. GUSTY EASTERLY WINDS WILL DEVELOP OVER PRINCE
EDWARD ISLAND, CAPE BRETON AND SOUTHERN NEWFOUNDLAND LATER TODAY AND
TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY.
B. RAINFALL.
THE PRIMARY IMPACT FROM THIS SYSTEM IS RAINFALL. PERIODS OF RAIN
WITH EMBEDDED HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND OCCASIONAL THUNDERSHOWERS OVER MUCH
OF THE MARITIMES WILL SPREAD TO SOUTHERN NEWFOUNDLAND BY THIS EVENING
AND END ON SUNDAY. RAINFALL WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHERN
REGIONS OF NEW BRUNSWICK, AND ALL OF PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND AND NOVA
SCOTIA. THESE WILL BE ENDING FROM WEST TO EAST THIS AFTERNOON, AND
TONIGHT FOR CAPE BRETON. GENERAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 40 TO 60
MILLIMETRES ARE EXPECTED OR HAVE OCCURRED WITH LOCALLY HIGHER
AMOUNTS. AMOUNTS HAVE REACHED ABOUT 90 MILLIMETRES OVER GRAND MANAN
ISLAND IN NEW BRUNSWICK, AND 70 MILLIMETRES FOR BRIER ISLAND AND
GREENWOOD IN NOVA SCOTIA.
RAINFALL WARNINGS HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR SOUTHERN NEWFOUNDLAND
INCLUDING RAMEA-CONNAIGRE AND THE BURIN AND AVALON PENINSULAS, FOR UP
TO 55 MILLIMETRES OF RAIN. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE CERTAINLY
POSSIBLE.
C. SURGE/WAVES.
NO SIGNIFICANT SURGE ISSUES ARE EXPECTED AT THIS TIME. BASED ON THE
LATEST TRACK MODERATE WAVE CONDITIONS OF 3 TO 4 METRES WILL BEGIN TO
AFFECT THE ATLANTIC COAST OF NOVA SCOTIA LATER TODAY. FOR THE SOUTH
COAST OF NEWFOUNDLAND WAVES WILL REACH 3 METRES BEGINNING OVERNIGHT
AND PERSISTING INTO SUNDAY.
3. MARINE WEATHER IMPACTS AND WARNINGS SUMMARY.
GALE WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT FOR ALL MARINE WATERS SOUTH OF NOVA
SCOTIA FOR TODAY WHERE GALE FORCE SOUTHWESTERLIES UP TO 40 KNOTS CAN
BE EXPECTED. EASTERLY GALES ARE ALSO EXPECTED OVER THE GULF OF ST
LAWRENCE AND CABOT STRAIT AS THE SYSTEM APPROACHES. GALE WARNINGS
ARE IN EFFECT FOR TONIGHT AND SUNDAY FOR THE GRAND BANKS.
GALE WARNINGS ARE ALSO IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHERN COASTAL WATERS OF
NEWFOUNDLAND WHERE GALE FORCE EASTERLIES ARE EXPECTED TONIGHT AND
SUNDAY.
SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHTS OF 4 TO 5 METRES HAVE ALSO DEVELOPED OVER
SOUTHERN WATERS TODAY.
