Snowfall warning in effect for:
- Cumberland County - Minas Shore
A low pressure system will develop south of Cape Cod overnight and then strengthen on Friday as it tracks north. The low will pass just south of Cape Breton Friday evening and continue north towards Newfoundland early Saturday morning. Precipitation from this system will reach Colchester and Cumberland Counties Friday morning and begin as rain, possibly mixed with snow at first. By noon the precipitation is forecast to change to snow and continue until the evening. Generally 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected across these regions, however over higher terrain, including the Cobequid Pass, 15 cm of snow is forecast. The snow will taper to scattered flurries in the evening before ending near midnight.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. For information on emergency plans and kits go to http://www.getprepared.gc.ca/
Snowfall Warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
