Freezing rain is forecast to begin over inland portions of southwestern Nova Scotia late tonight, then change to rain as temperatures rise early Friday morning.

Travelling conditions may become icy across the region on Friday night, as the rain ends and is followed by cold westerly winds and scattered flurries. Temperatures are expected to drop quickly overnight, to be well below zero by Saturday morning.

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

Fredericton and Southern York County
Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

Ice pellets and freezing rain are forecast to begin late tonight over southwestern New Brunswick and spread northeastward Friday morning. Most areas are likely to see several hours of light freezing rain before temperatures rise and precipitation changes to rain for the remainder of the day. Icy conditions may linger into the afternoon over northeastern New Brunswick, although the freezing rain is likely to remain mixed at times with ice pellets or snow. In the Grand Manan and Coastal Charlotte County region, the freezing rain should be limited to areas that are well inland.

Travelling conditions may become icy again on Friday night, as the rain ends and is followed by cold westerly winds and scattered flurries. Temperatures are expected to drop quickly overnight, to be well below zero by Saturday morning.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Freezing rain is forecast to begin over western Nova Scotia late tonight and spread eastward across the province on Friday morning. Most regions are likely to see several hours of light freezing rain before temperatures rise and precipitation changes to rain for the remainder of the day. Areas along the immediate Atlantic coast should receive significantly less freezing rain than those further inland.
