...Strong Low Pressure Will Impact The Region This Weekend...

.A rapidly intensifying low will track from the Mid Atlantic
region to the Gulf of Maine later today, then cross the Gulf of
Maine tonight. This storm will bring heavy snow to northern and
the central maine highlands of Maine with mixed precipitation
across east central and interior Downeast areas and mostly heavy
rain along the Downeast coast. In addition, the storm will
produce gusty winds, with patchy to areas of blowing snow for
areas where the precipitation type is mostly snow.

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO
7 PM EST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow and sleet expected. Total snow accumulations
  of 6 to 12 inches and sleet accumulations of between one and
  two tenths of an inch expected.

* WHERE...Southeast Aroostook and Central Penobscot Counties.

* WHEN...From 1 PM this afternoon to 7 PM EST Sunday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be extremely dangerous.
  Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility and
  cause localized hazardous travel. Power outages are possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow and sleet means severe winter
weather conditions will make travel extremely dangerous. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.

Wind warning in effect for:

Acadian Peninsula
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Maximum gusts: northeasterly 70 km/h, except 100 along parts of the coast.

Locations: Acadian Peninsula

Time span: overnight until near noon Sunday,

Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

Kent County
Rain, at times heavy, is expected. The ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall.

Total rainfall: 40 to 60 mm.

Locations: southern New Brunswick.

Time span: beginning Saturday afternoon and tapering off throughout the day Sunday.

Remarks: Rainfall amounts may be lower than the standard criteria for a rainfall warning; however, the saturated ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. Significant pooling and runoff are likely to occur.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Total rainfall: 25 to 45 mm.

Locations: Yarmouth and Digby counties.

Time span: Rain at times heavy will taper off to showers near midnight tonight.

Remarks: Rainfall amounts may be lower than the standard criteria for a rainfall warning; however, the saturated ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. Significant pooling and runoff are likely to occur.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
