May Day Storm Update One


































9:13 p.m. ADT Sunday 30 April 2023
Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

Total rainfall: 50 to 65 mm.Locations: Halifax Metro and south shore, including Yarmouth.

Time span: beginning tonight and intensifying Monday morning.

Remarks: The rain will be heavy at times. Travel may become difficult on area highways.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Strong southeasterly winds are expected on Monday.

Strongest wind gusts: 80 km/h, possibly higher in exposed and coastal areas.

Time span: Beginning overnight tonight in Yarmouth county and spreading to Halifax county by Monday morning. Winds will diminish by Monday evening.

Remarks: Strong winds may toss loose objects or cause minor property damage. Local utility outages are possible.
