New Year's Winter Storm Update One

Wind warning in effect for:

Queens County P.E.I.
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

A low pressure system from the Great Lakes will approach the Maritimes this evening, tracking near the Bay of Fundy Tuesday afternoon and toward Cape Breton by Tuesday evening.

In the wake of this system Tuesday night, strong northwesterly winds are expected to gust up to 90 km/h. Winds will begin to ease Wednesday morning as the low pulls away from the region.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick
Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected.

A low pressure system approaching from the west will cross southern New Brunswick on Tuesday. Snow associated with this system will start over New Brunswick overnight tonight and will taper off late in the afternoon on Tuesday. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are expected. However, should the track of this system change as it approaches our region, these amounts could change significantly.

Additionally, in the wake of this system strong northwesterly winds will develop and temperatures are expected to drop from above to well below zero Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. This will give windchill values approaching warning levels in the northwest near dawn on Wednesday.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

Snowfall with total amounts of about 15 cm is expected.

A low pressure system from the Great Lakes will approach the Maritimes this evening, tracking near the Bay of Fundy Tuesday afternoon and toward Cape Breton by Tuesday evening.

Snow will develop ahead of this system Tuesday morning and taper to periods of rain or showers by Tuesday evening. Total snowfall accumulations near 15 cm are expected.

Additionally, in the wake of this system strong northwesterly winds will develop and temperatures are expected to drop from above to well below zero Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
