into the early morning hours...
Flash Flood Watches are in effect for portions of northeast Maine.
Flood Warnings are in effect for the Pawtuxet River in Rhode
Island, the Sandbury and Shawsheen Rivers in Massachusetts, and
the Yantic River in Connecticut.
A Flood Advisory is in effect for portions of southern Connecticut.

At 1000 PM EDT...The center of Post-Tropical Storm Elsa was
located over the northeastern Maine coastline between Bar Harbor
and the Candaian border. Surface observations and Doppler Radar
indicate moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds were ongoing
in northeastern Maine as Post-Tropical Storm Elsa makes its way
northeast into New Brunswick, Canada overnight.

As per the final NHC advisory, Post-Tropical Storm Elsa is
expected to continue along its northeastward trajectory, moving
into New Brunswick, Canada overnight before crossing the Gulf of
Saint Lawrence and reaching Newfoundland Saturday afternoon. With
another inch or two of rainfall on the way for extreme
northeastern Maine, the risk of flash and urban flooding will
remain for the region through the early morning hours. Gusty winds
will also be possible over the next few hours before subsiding
with Elsa's departure.

Discussion.
A significant rainfall event occurred in New Brunswick over the past
24 hours or so. A trough of low pressure gave periods of heavy rain
along with isolated thunderstorms to portions of the province well
ahead of the moisture associated with post-tropical storm Elsa. The
combination of the two lead to widespread rainfall amounts of
between 50 and 100 mm. The following are rainfall totals (in mm) as
of 5 AM ADT Saturday July 10, 2021.

Discussion.
A warm frontal trough moved northward over the Gulf of St. Lawrence
on Friday bringing periods of rain to areas from southwestern
Newfoundland to southeastern Labrador. Rain continued, heavy at
times, into Saturday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Elsa tracked
across Atlantic Canada. Areas to the east of the track received
little precipitation, but did experience a period of relatively
gusty winds for July.
