Environment Canada Event Summary

AWCN14 CWHX 041545
SPECIAL WEATHER SUMMARY MESSAGE FOR NEW BRUNSWICK ISSUED BY
ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 12:45 PM ADT TUESDAY 4 JULY 2006.

ENVIRONMENT CANADA HAS CONFIRMED TORNADIC ACTIVITY IN THE AREA OF
ARGYLE, NEW BRUNSWICK (ABOUT 25 KM EAST OF FLORENCEVILLE) ON THE
EVENING OF JULY 2, AROUND 19:00 ADT.

RADARS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CARIBOU (MAINE) AND FROM
ENVIRONMENT CANADA (CHIPMAN, NB) DETECTED TORNADIC SIGNATURES THAT
WERE CONFIRMED BY GROUND SURVEY ON MONDAY AFTERNOON.

AN ONSITE SURVEY CLEARLY INDICATED THAT AT LEAST ONE TORNADO TOUCHED
DOWN IN THE ARGYLE AREA. THE DOMINANT PATH OF DAMAGE STRETCHED OVER A
DISTANCE OF ABOUT 7 KM IN A NORTHWEST-SOUTHEAST ORIENTATION AND WIDTH
RANGING FROM 600 TO 1000 M. THE EXTENT AND SEVERITY OF DAMAGE
SUGGESTS AN F1 TORNADO (FUJITA SCALE) WITH WINDS ESTIMATED AROUND 150
KM/H. ADDITIONAL DAMAGES WERE OBSERVED IN THE GLASSVILLE AREA AND
NEAR LAKE MIRAMICHI (20 KM SOUTHEAST OF JUNIPER).

BECAUSE OF THE CONSIDERABLE WIDTH OF THE CORRIDOR, ENVIRONMENT CANADA
SAYS THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SEVERAL TORNADOES FORMED AND DISSIPATED
IN THE SAME THUNDERSTORM CELL.
