NOVEMBER 2021 WAS A LITTLE WARMER AND DRIER ACROSS THE REGION
COMPARED TO 1991-2020 AVERAGES.
THE MONTH FINISHED 0.5 TO 1.5 DEGREES ABOVE AVERAGE WITH THE WARMER
DEPARTURES ACROSS THE NORTH. THIS WAS A VERY LINEAR MONTH, WITH
FREQUENT COLD FRONTAL PASSAGES GRADUALLY LOWERING TEMPS ACROSS THE
REGION THROUGH THE MONTH. THE WARMEST TEMPS IN THE UPPER 50S TO
LOWER 60S WAS RECORDED ON THE 9TH, WHILE THE COLDEST IN THE UPPER
SINGLE DIGITS TO UPPER TEENS RECORDED ON THE 29TH.
TOTAL PRECIPITATION RANGED FROM 65 TO 90 PERCENT ACROSS THE REGION
WITH SIGNIFICANT, BUT NOT HEAVY PRECIPITATION RECORDED ON 11TH, 14-
15TH, 18TH, AND 26-27TH. SNOWFALL WAS ALSO BELOW AVERAGE RANGING
FROM 35 TO 95 PERCENT OF 1991-2020 NORMALS WITH FAR NORTHWEST AND
NORTHEAST PORTIONS OF THE REGION CLOSEST TO AVERAGE.
THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT MEASURABLE EVENT OCCURRED ACROSS THE NORTH ON
THE 15-16TH WITH GREATEST TOTALS OF 3 TO 4 INCHES OVER THE FAR
NORTHEAST PORTION OF THE REGION. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL OF THE MONTH
OCCURRED ON THE 26-27TH WITH UPWARDS TO 7 INCHES ACROSS THE FAR
NORTH, BUT ALSO INCLUDED LIGHTER AMOUNTS OVER CENTRAL AND DOWNEAST
AREAS.
THE CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER`S OUTLOOK FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER IS
SLANTED TOWARD NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND PRECIPITATION (ACTUALLY,
EQUAL CHANCES OF BELOW, NORMAL, OR ABOVE FOR EACH CATEGORY).
AVERAGES FOR THE 1991-2020 PERIOD FOR DECEMBER TEMPERATURES ARE LOWS
OF AROUND 10 ABOVE F (UPPER TEENS) AND HIGHS OF UPPER 20S (MID 30S)
FOR FAR NORTHERN (DOWNEAST AREAS). AVERAGE MONTHLY PRECIPITATION FOR
THE ENTIRE REGION IS ABOUT 3.50 TO 3.75 INCHES. AVERAGE DECEMBER
SNOWFALL RANGES FROM 10 TO 15 INCHES OVER DOWNEAST TO 25 TO 30
INCHES ACROSS FAR NORTHERN AREAS.
