Surprise Nova Scotia Severe Thunderstorms Induced Flooding, Event Summary

Discussion.

A slow moving trough of low pressure and a tropical airmass that 
moved into the Maritimes on Friday, produced frequent lightning, 
very heavy downpours of rain and very high rainfall totals. These 
conditions began Friday morning over western areas of the South 
Shore. On Friday afternoon, the rain and thunderstorms spread 
eastward and northward to central and northern areas of the 
province. Rain and thunderstorms spread to eastern areas of Nova 
Scotia today.
