Special weather statement in effect for:

Saint John and County
Significant rainfall mixed with snow is expected this weekend.

Total rainfall: 20 to 30 mm.

Locations: areas along the Fundy coast.

Time span: heaviest precipitation to begin Saturday morning before tapering off late in the day Sunday.

Remarks: Although rain, at times heavy and mixed with snow, is expected, if the temperature lowers slightly from currently forecast, a transition to heavy wet snow could occur.

A snowfall warning is in effect for areas to the north, including Fredericton, Sussex and Moncton. Some areas of southern and central New Brunswick could receive 15 to 25 cm of snow by the end of the weekend and travellers to those areas should exercise caution.

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
Rain and strong winds are expected this weekend.

Total rainfall: 30 to 50 mm.

Maximum wind gusts: 80 km/h, possibly higher.

Locations: Atlantic coast of mainland Nova Scotia and eastern Cape Breton.

Time span: heaviest precipitation to begin Saturday morning before tapering off late in the day Sunday.

Remarks: Rain at times heavy and strong easterly winds will persist for most of the day Saturday. A mix or transition to snow is possible Saturday night into Sunday for inland areas.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Fredericton and Southern York County
Significant heavy wet snow is expected throughout the weekend.

Total snowfall: 15 to 25 cm.

Locations: parts of central and southern New Brunswick

Time span: heaviest precipitation to begin by Saturday afternoon before tapering off late in the day Sunday.

Remarks: Snow is expected to begin over southern New Brunswick early Saturday morning and then spread to the remainder of the province during the day. The nature of the snow will be wet, therefore, blowing snow is not expected. The heaviest snow is forecast to taper off late in the day on Sunday however, periods of light to moderate snow may persist into early next week.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Victoria County
A long period of snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.

Locations: Victoria county.

Time span: Saturday evening into Sunday evening.

Remarks: Showers or flurries will transition to snow, at times heavy, beginning Saturday evening. The nature of the snow will be wet, therefore, blowing snow is not expected.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Potentially significant snowfall this weekend is expected to persist into early next week.

Total snowfall: nearing 15 cm by Sunday evening.

Locations: central and northeastern New Brunswick.

Time span: developing through the day Saturday, persisting into early next week.

Remarks: A prolonged period of light to moderate snowfall is expected to develop on Saturday and persist through the weekend into early next week. By the event's end some areas of central and northern New Brunswick could receive as much as 25 cm of snow.

A snowfall warning may be issued as the system drawn nearer to the region.
