BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 5:18 AM NST FRIDAY 14 JANUARY 2011.
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM DEVELOPED OFF CAPE HATTERAS EARLIER THIS WEEK
AND MOVED ALONG THE AMERICAN EAST COAST ON WEDNESDAY. THE LOW THEN
TRACKED SOUTH OF NOVA SCOTIA ON THURSDAY AND SOUTHEAST OF THE AVALON
PENINSULA ON THURSDAY NIGHT. SNOW ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM BEGAN
OVER SOUTHERN NEWFOUNDLAND EARLY THURSDAY MORNING AND SPREAD
NORTHWARD THROUGHOUT THE DAY. SNOW BECAME MIXED WITH AND EVEN
CHANGED OVER TO RAIN FOR COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHERN AND EASTERN
NEWFOUNDLAND. THE HIGHEST SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS WERE REPORTED OVER
THE AVALON PENINSULA.
