Special weather statement in effect for:

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
Accumulating snow expected today.

Total snowfall: total 5 to 15 cm.

Time span: today into this evening.

Location: central, northern and western Nova Scotia. A winter storm warning is in effect for eastern parts of the province.

Remarks: A disturbance passing to the south of the Maritimes will spread snow to the province today. Snow will gradually end over western regions this afternoon but will continue into the evening over northern regions.

Additionally, strong northerly winds will develop later today and combine with the fresh snow to create occasionally reduced visibility in blowing snow. Winds will diminish over most regions by early Monday morning.

Winter storm warning in effect for:

Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Total snowfall: 15 to 25 cm. Locally higher amounts possible.

Maximum wind gusts: 70 to 80 km/h.

Locations: Eastern mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

Time span: Until late this evening for accumulating snow; This afternoon until early Monday morning for strongest winds and blowing snow.

Remarks: Snow will taper to flurries late this evening. Strong and gusty north to northeasterly winds will develop this afternoon and will likely give frequent reduced visibility in blowing snow tonight into Monday morning before gradually diminishing. Conditions are expected to improve Monday.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
