Heatwave Day Four And Severe Nova Scotia Thunderstorm Data - 06/30/2021

Weather summary
for Nova Scotia
issued by Environment Canada
at 11:42 a.m. ADT Thursday 1 July 2021.

Discussion.

At 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 29th, ECCC issued a severe thunderstorm
watch for much of mainland Nova Scotia. At 2:36 p.m. a severe
thunderstorm warning was issued for a storm over central Nova
Scotia. At approximately 2:45 p.m. severe winds, likely resulting
from a microburst, damaged trees and some buildings in the Stewiacke
area, including the total destruction of a barn.

A remote survey of the damage has indicated that straight line winds
likely gusted to 115 km/h. Locally higher wind gusts, possibly
exceeding 150 km/h, are estimated to have occured in the area of the
destroyed barn structure.

Because of the distance from the nearest operating radars, doppler
radar was not available to determine possible tornadic activity.
However, the damage pattern appears to be more consistent with that
of a straight line wind storm.

The following area set a daily maximum temperature record on June
30, 2021:

Kejimkujik (National Park) Area (Kejimkujik 1)
New record of 33.5
Old record of 31.9 set in 1997
Records in this area have been kept since 1966

Note: the temperature record reported here has been derived from a
selection of historical stations in this geographic area that were
active during the period of record.

Please note that this summary may contain preliminary or unofficial
information and does not constitute a complete or final report.
