Freezing rain warning in effect for:

Queens County P.E.I.

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

Prolonged periods of freezing rain.

Locations: Queens and Kings County.

Time Span: Tuesday afternoon to Tuesday evening.

Remarks: Snow and ice pellets will spread across the province early Tuesday, and will change over to ice pellets, then freezing rain, and then to rain over central and eastern portions of the province by Tuesday evening.

Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Fredericton and Southern York County

Snow, ice pellets, and an extended period of freezing rain are expected on Tuesday.

Total snowfall and ice pellet amounts: 15 to 20 cm.

Location: south central New Brunswick.

Time span: Tuesday morning until Wednesday morning.

Remarks: snow will begin Tuesday morning, transition through a period of ice pellets, and then change to freezing rain by Tuesday afternoon or early Tuesday evening before ending Wednesday morning.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 to

  10 inches and sleet accumulations up to one tenth of an inch.

* WHERE...Portions of Central Highlands, Far Eastern, Far Northern,

  North Woods, and Penobscot Valley Maine.

* WHEN...From Midnight tonight to 11 PM EST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions

  could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

Prolonged periods of freezing rain on Tuesday.

Locations: Nova Scotia

Time Span: Tuesday morning through to Tuesday evening.

Remarks: Periods of snow and ice pellets across the province tonight and early Tuesday, then changing to a prolonged period of ice pellets then freezing rain, before gradually changing to rain from southwest to northeast across the province on Tuesday.

Freezing rain warnings have been issued for all counties except Victoria and Inverness County - Mabou and north, but the warning could be extended to these counties in subsequent forecasts.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Fredericton and Southern York County

A mix of snow and ice pellets is expected on Tuesday.

Total snowfall and ice pellet amounts: 15 to 25 cm.

Locations: central New Brunswick.

Time span: Tuesday morning until Wednesday morning.

Remarks: Snow is expected to begin spreading across New Brunswick Tuesday morning. A change over to ice pellets is expected over southern New Brunswick late in the morning and will continue to spread towards northern New Brunswick by the afternoon. There is also the likelihood that precipitation will switch to or mix with freezing rain Tuesday evening over southern areas and persist into Wednesday morning.

A freezing rain warning is in effect for extreme southern New Brunswick, and it may need to be expanded to include south central regions with subsequent forecasts.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Time span: Tuesday near noon till Wednesday morning.

Remarks: Precipitation will begin as snow Tuesday morning, and then transition through a period of ice pellets and then freezing rain by Tuesday afternoon before ending Wednesday morning. Total snowfall and ice pellet amounts of 5 to 15 cm are expected before changing to freezing rain.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
