The National Weather Service in Gray Maine has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Central York County in southwestern Maine...
  Southeastern Cumberland County in southwestern Maine...
  West central Sagadahoc County in south central Maine...
  Southeastern Rockingham County in southern New Hampshire...
  Southeastern Strafford County in central New Hampshire...

* Until 130 PM EST.

* At 833 AM EST, Doppler radar and automated gauges indicated a
  broad area of heavy rain across the warned area. Two to three
  inches of rain have already fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or
  expected to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

  SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

  IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
           highways, streets and underpasses as well as other
           drainage and low lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Portland, South Portland, Biddeford, Portsmouth, Brunswick,
  Westbrook, Hampton, Durham, Exeter, Kittery, Alfred, Topsham,
  Sanford, Dover, Cumberland, Saco, Gorham, Falmouth, Kennebunk and
  Cape Elizabeth.

This includes the following highways...
 Interstate 295 between mile markers 1 and 29.
 Interstate 95 between mile markers 1 and 61.
 Interstate 95 in New Hampshire between mile markers 0 and 16.

This also includes...
  Hampton Beach, York Beach, Ogunquit Beach, Wells Beach, and
Fortunes Rock Beach.
  Peaks Island, Long Island, Cushing Island, Cousins Island, and
Great Diamond Island.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Wind warning in effect for:

Cumberland County North and Cobequid Pass
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Strong winds expected on Sunday.

Maximum gusts ; 90 km/h.

Location: Tantramar Marsh and vicinity.

Time span: Sunday morning into the afternoon

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

Campbellton and eastern half of Restigouche County
western half of Restigouche County
Rain, heavy at times is expected.

Rainfall, combined with melting snow, is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.

Total rainfall: 20 to 40 mm over northern and eastern regions.
30 to 70 mm over southern regions.

Locations: New Brunswick.

Time span: this morning until Sunday.

Remarks: Rain, at times heavy, will spread across New Brunswick beginning this morning with precipitation beginning as snow over northern most regions. The rain will persist Saturday night and then taper to showers and then flurries Sunday morning. The highest rainfall amounts are expected near the Fundy coast. A wind warning was issued over the Tantramar Marsh area for strong southwesterly winds Sunday morning and afternoon.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Rainfall at times heavy will impact much of Nova Scotia.

Total rainfall: 40 to 70 mm.

Locations: the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton..

Time span: today into Sunday..

Remarks: Rain, at times heavy, will spread across the remainder of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton today. The rain will persist tonight and then taper to showers Sunday morning over mainland Nova Scotia and near noon for Cape Breton.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
