Winter Storm Sadie Update One

Winter Storm Sadie

4:05 PM ADT Friday 17 April 2020
Special weather statement in effect for:

Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County
Snow expected Saturday night.

Total snowfall: possibly exceeding 10 cm

Maximum wind gusts: 80 km/h along the Atlantic coast

Locations: eastern Nova Scotia including Cape Breton Island

Time span: Saturday night through midday Sunday

Remarks: A low pressure system is forecast to move off the New England coast Saturday and then rapidly intensify as it tracks south of Cape Breton on Sunday. Snow and strong gusty winds can be expected with this system. Snow is forecast to begin Saturday night and begin to ease late Sunday morning. At this time there is considerable uncertainty in the exact track of the system and potential snowfall accumulations. If the track is further offshore, snowfall amounts would likely be less than currently forecast. However, if the track is closer to shore then snowfall amounts could be greater and warnings may be required.
