Early August Rainstorm Update One

Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

Total rainfall: 50 to 70 mm.

Locations: Northwestern New Brunswick.

Time span: Near noon Tuesday until late Wednesday.

Remarks: Rain, heavy at times, will begin near noon Tuesday, before tapering to scattered showers late on Wednesday. Intense rainfall rates upwards of 25 mm per hour are possible in the heaviest downpours.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH

TUESDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be

  possible.

* WHERE...Portions of Central Highlands, Far Eastern, North Woods,

  and Penobscot Valley Maine, including the following areas, in

  Central Highlands Maine, Central Piscataquis, Northern Penobscot

  and Southern Piscataquis. In Far Eastern Maine, Southeast

  Aroostook. In North Woods Maine, Northern Piscataquis. In

  Penobscot Valley Maine, Central Penobscot.

* WHEN...From Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,

  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - Multiple round of showers and storms will move into the area

    tomorrow afternoon and continue through the evening hours.

    Enhanced lift over the higher terrain will likely result in

    higher rainfall totals.
