Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County
Significant wind and heavy rain are expected beginning on Wednesday night.
Maximum wind gusts: 80 km/h. Stronger coastal gusts over 90 km/h possible.
Total rainfall: 40 to 60 mm. Locally higher amounts possible.
Locations: parts of mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.
Time span: Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Remarks: Very strong southerly winds will develop late Wednesday in advance of a vigorous cold front. The passage of this front will also bring intense rain in a fairly short period of time. Ponding/pooling on roadways may occur. Strong winds may toss loose objects (decorations) and cause tree branches to break. Isolated utility outages may occur.
Wind and rainfall warnings have been issued for some areas and may be expanded further as this event draws nearer.

Total rainfall: 25 to 50 mm. Locally higher amounts possible.
Maximum wind gusts: 80 km/h. Stronger coastal gusts possible.
Locations: New Brunswick.
Time span: Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.
Remarks: Very strong southerly winds will develop late Wednesday in advance of a vigorous cold front. The passage of this front will also bring intense rain in a fairly short period of time. Ponding/pooling on roadways may occur. Strong winds may toss loose objects and cause tree branches to break.

Locations: south shore of Nova Scotia.

Remarks: A strong cold front will bring rain at times heavy Wednesday night with localized downpours and thundershowers possible. The rain is forecast to ease from west to east on Thursday, with a significant drop in temperatures.
Similar storms in the past have caused hazardous driving conditions and local utility outages.
This rainfall warning will likely be expanded as the weather system nears the Maritimes.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Maximum gusts: southerly 90 km/h. Potentially exceeding 100 along exposed areas of the Atlantic coast.
Locations: Atlantic coast of mainland Nova Scotia.
Time span: Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Remarks: An approaching cold front will bring very strong winds ahead of it beginning late Wednesday. Winds will switch to a westerly direction and subside somewhat mid-day on Thursday.
Loose objects (such as seasonal decorations) may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.
