Prolonged winter weather to impact Nova Scotia into early next week.

Locations: most of Nova Scotia

Time span: This evening until Monday.

Total snowfall amounts: 20 to 40 cm

Remarks: A prolonged period of snow is expected across the province tonight and into Monday. There will be a brief break in heavier snow on Saturday night, before rates intensify again on Sunday morning. Highest amounts are expected over central and eastern Nova Scotia however areas west and north could receive 20 to 40 cm by Monday.  

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Additionally, increasing northeast winds could result in reduced visibility in blowing snow over exposed areas tonight and into the weekend.

Total snowfall amounts: 20 to 40 cm.

Time span: This evening until Monday.

Remarks: A prolonged period of snow is expected over parts of Prince Edward island tonight and into Monday. There will be a brief break in heavy snow overnight Saturday, before intensifying again on Sunday morning. Total snowfall amounts could reach 20 to 40 cm by Monday.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Additionally, increasing northeast winds could result in reduced visibilities in blowing snow over exposed areas tonight and into the weekend.

A prolonged period of snowfall is expected.

Locations: Central and eastern Nova Scotia.

Total snowfall amounts: 30 to 40 cm for central Nova Scotia with up to 80 cm or possibly higher for eastern mainland and Cape Breton.

Time span: Tonight until Monday.

Remarks: A low pressure system southwest of Nova Scotia will slowly track eastward tonight. This low will intensify on Saturday and stall southeast of the province resulting in a prolonged period of snow for the region. There will be a brief break in heavy snow overnight Saturday, before intensifying again on Sunday morning.

Additionally, increasing northeasterly winds could result in reduced visibilities in blowing snow over exposed areas tonight and into the weekend.

Snow will taper to flurries Sunday night into Monday.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Heavy snowfall accumulation may cause tree branches to break.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
