Winter storm warning in effect for:

Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Total snowfall: 15 to 30 cm.

Freezing rain: 2 to 5 mm possible.

Maximum wind gusts: northeasterly up to 70 km/h. Les Suetes winds up to 80 km/h.

Locations: eastern Nova Scotia, including Cape Breton.

Time span: this afternoon until Friday afternoon.

Remarks: Snow will spread northward this afternoon then transition to a mix of ice pellets or freezing rain this evening and overnight. Freezing rain is expected to change over to rain mainly over eastern Cape Breton before switching back to snow Friday afternoon.

Flurries will persist Friday afternoon and combine with strong northwesterly winds which could give reduced visibilities in snow and blowing snow. Flurries will taper off Saturday morning.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
